Wirral Scientist Appointed to Charity's Committee

A Wirral scientist has been appointed to the Scientific Committee of local charity, North West Cancer Research Fund.�
The Fund makes available between �750,000 and �1 million every year for research into the causes of cancer.� Virtually all of this money is raised through voluntary efforts and donations.� The Scientific Committee is the independent body responsible for allocating the money to research projects.
Professor McLennan, from Heswall, is a Division Leader at the School of Biological Sciences in The University of Liverpool.� He is an international authority on diadenosines, compounds that regulate some of the pathways which prevent cells from becoming cancerous.�
North West Cancer Research Fund has voluntary committees in Caldy, Heswall, Hoylake, Neston and Wallasey.
There are normally 30 research projects underway at any time into many types of cancer.� The research is fundamental and potentially the platform on which major breakthroughs will be made.� Throughout its 56 year history, over 90p in every � raised has consistently been spent directly on research.
