MOLD WOMAN URGES PUBLIC TO VISIT NORTH WEST CANCER RESEARCH CENTRE

North West Cancer Research Fund Institute in the University of Wales Bangor will open its doors for a public tour on 6 July 2006 and local fundraiser Beryl Powell is urging the public to attend.
Following on from the success of last year�s tour, this is the second time that the event will take place.� Members of the public will have the fantastic chance to look around the laboratories and meet some of the scientists who work there.� Beryl Powell, the chairman of the Mold committee from North West Cancer Research Fund says: �It is hoped that many people will sign up for the tour of the Institute and see for themselves the pioneering, world class research which is taking place on a daily basis.�� She went on to say: �This research has been funded by local people and in a local arena so it is very important that it gains recognition.�
North West Cancer Research Fund Institute was opened on 23 July 2004 by Professor Eric Sunderland, Lord Lieutenant of Gwynedd, as a dedicated centre of research excellence.� The centre cost �432,000 to set up and in the same year Mold committee raised over �328,000 through fundraising, quite simply the extent of their efforts cannot be underestimated.� The centre is unique within North Wales carrying out world class research into the fundamental causes of tumour development.
North West Cancer Research Fund is a volunteer led charity which gives local support to local research. The voluntary committees are in: Aberdovey, Harlech, Holyhead, Llandudno, Llanfairfechan & Aber, Machynlleth, Mold, Prestatyn and Tywyn and it was their efforts which helped to raise the funding for the Institute.�
