SCIENTIST RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARD FOR RESEARCH

Dr Ian Prior won the special BBSRC Young Bioscientist Prize and was runner-up in the competition for the Mendel Medal for Young Bioscience Researcher of the Year.
The presentation was made in the Houses of Parliament and Dr Prior subsequently met and was congratulated by his local Member of Parliament, Mr Stephen Hesford, who is the Member for Wirral West.
Dr Prior received the award in recognition of his research which involved developing techniques to observe previously invisible cellular features. The technique allows the organisation of pathways involved in cancer development and the role of our diet in regulating cell surface organisation to be studied.
North West Cancer Research Fund is an independent regional cancer research charity which makes �750,000 available every year for fundamental research into the causes of cancer.� The Fund has 42 voluntary committees across the area including 5 in Wirral in Caldy, Heswall, Hoylake, Neston and Wallasey.
Dr Prior said, �I am obviously very pleased to have won this award and would like to thank everyone who supported me especially the North West Cancer Research Fund for their help and assistance.�
Mr Stephen Hesford MP said, �I am delighted that Dr Prior won this well deserved award for all the hard work he has obviously put into his research. It is the research of Dr Prior, and people like him, that allow science to move on and become increasingly advanced. This can only benefit society as a whole and I wish him every success in the future.�
