MARGARET IS THRILLED TO RECEIVE LONG SERVICE AWARD

Margaret Emmott from Kirkby Lonsdale has been helping to fight the causes of cancer for over 40 years.� She is� a long-standing volunteer of the Lunesdale, Lancashire, committee of North West Cancer Research Fund.
Margaret has served in practically every role on the committee from minute taker to her current position as Vice-President. �Margaret has recently received a long service award from the Fund in recognition of her loyalty and devotion to finding the causes of cancer.
Margaret feels passionately about the Fund and its work.� 'I first became involved with North West Cancer Research Fund after my husband, Donald, was cured of cancer of the larynx in 1961 and we have always felt grateful for the 40 plus years together since then.� Many more have not been so fortunate.'
The Lunesdale committee is made up of 16 small committees in the area.� It is the fund raising efforts of these volunteers that have allowed research to be funded in Lancaster university for over 10 years.� In 2004, the Fund made one of its largest awards ever when it gave �265,000 to create the North West Cancer Research Fund Fellowship at Lancaster University.� The establishment of this post meant that a dedicated cancer reserch scientist was recruited.
Margaret continued, 'It is very important that money raised locally is spent at Lancaster,'�
Margaret believes that her time and efforts have been well spent with the charity and was thrilled to receive the award.� This does not, though, mean the end of her heard work as Margaret is already busy making marmalade for the annual coffee morning in November.
North West Cancer Research Fund is an independent regional charity.� Founded in 1948, throughout its 57 year history, an average of nearly 90p in every � raised has consistently been spent directly on research.� It makes available �750,000 every year for fundamental research into the causes of cancer and virtually all of this money is raised through voluntary efforts and donations.
