CHARITY'S PROFESSOR APPOINTED TO SENIOR JOB IN UNIVERSITY

Professor McMillan specializes in cancer research and his work has been funded for 10 years by North West Cancer Research Fund.� In 2004, he spearheaded the creation of the 'North West Cancer Research Fund Fellowship' at Lancaster University.� The Fund gave �265,000, one of its largest awards ever, to establish the Fellowship which enabled Professor McMillan to recruit a dedicated full time cancer researcher for 5 years.
Founded in 1948, North West Cancer Research Fund makes available between �750,000 and �1 million every year for fundamental research into the causes of cancer.� Virtually all of this money is raised through voluntary efforts and donations.� The Fund has a strong presence in Lancashire with 17 voluntary committees in the area.� Throughout its 57 year history, an average of nearly 90p in every � raised has consistently been spent directly on research.
