Donate - Legacy

A legacy can make a lifetime of difference! On average 1 in 3 of us will be affected by cancer at some stage in our lifetime. Cancer unfortunately touches people of all ages and by leaving a legacy to us in your will you can help us continue with our important research into this dreadful disease.

A large proportion of the Fund’s income comes from Legacies. Furthermore, if you compare one year’s accounts with another year’s accounts, you will see how much the income received from legacies can fluctuate from year to year. This is something over which we have no control, because legacies are only received by the fund when the estate of a person who leaves a legacy in his/her will has been wound up and distributed.

All legacies to a charity are free of Inheritance Tax which could have the effect of saving 40% in death duties.

Your solicitor will give you further advice on making a Will which we would strongly advise you against trying to make yourself. It might be helpful to them however, if you suggest the following wording:

“I give to the North West Cancer Research Fund of 22 Oxford Street, Liverpool L7 7BL, the sum of £...” or “(state a fraction) of my residuary estate”.

We cannot stress strongly enough how much we depend on legacies to support our income.

North West Cancer Research Fund is a member of the Legacy Promotion Campaign, if you would like details on how to write a will and the benefits of using a solicitor, then take a look at their website by clicking on the link/symbol below.
